Corporate Name
The Fraternity’s full corporate name is Delta Lambda Phi National Social Fraternity. In most cases, however, it is shortened to Delta Lambda Phi.
Mission
As a non-profit organization, Delta Lambda Phi is organized for social and recreational purposes. More specifically, the Fraternity’s purposes also include enhancing the quality of life among gay, bisexual and progressive men by providing dignified and purposeful social, service and recreational activities.
Tax Status
Delta Lambda Phi is organized as a non-profit corporation under District of Columbia law for social and recreational purposes. As such, it is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)7 of the Internal Revenue Code.
Structure
Delta Lambda Phi is modeled after other collegiate Greek societies. It has a formal pledging process, a coat of arms, a fraternity pin, a national convention and chapter programs that conform to National Interfraternity Council policies. Delta Lambda Phi follows a policy governance model and maintains its national office in Washington, DC. Members of the National Office, headed by the National Executive Director, oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization. National Conventions provide the board of directors and chapter leadership an opportunity to review Fraternity policies, attend leadership and educational seminars and socialize. The Fraternity is governed by an elected nine-member board of directors who carry out the policies of the organization between annual conventions.
Crest
Our crest pays homage to the struggles of gay and bisexual men over the ages, as well as the current struggles that are
faced today. It also speaks to ideals that we, as a Brotherhood, hold dear: friendship, enlightenment, justice, openness and honor.

Mascot
The Centaur, a mythical half-man, half-horse creature, is the mascot of Delta Lambda Phi. Adapted from Greek mythology and redefined, he embodies the essence of masculinity. Ancient Greek mythology presented the centaur as a longhaired, bearded creature with shaggy hair covering most of his body. Our depiction of the Centaur differs from that of classic Greek mythology in that the Lambda Centaur is clean-shaven with short hair and resembles a young man. The straining, extended hand of the Lambda Centaur as he reaches for those experiences just beyond his grasp reemphasizes the enduring internal and external strength of the Lambda Man.
