DLP takes Greek God for 3rd Time

Br. Doug in his toga during the FAQ section

Newly initiated brother Doug Overbeck, competed on behalf of the Beta Xi chapter in the Inter-Greek Council’s Greek God and Goddess to compete for the honor to be crowned as Greek God. Brother Overbeck started off the night with a fierce walk competing against some of the best members of the other fraternities on Campus. Following some fantastic responses in the Q&A portion, Doug really blew away the competition with a dance performance done in full drag to mash up of some of today’s most popular songs. Doug was not only the first place winner of Greek God bringing 10 points to Beta Xi towards the spring Greek night competition, but is also the third Greek God winner that Delta Lambda Phi has put forth to NYU’s IGC Greek God competition. Check out the video of the performance!

Greek Family Feud

DLP's Greek Family Feud Logo

6pm November 30th, Kimmel 802

It’s finally here! The moment that you have all been waiting for! Beta Xi’s first annual GREEK FAMILY FEUD. We are putting a hilarious NYU twist on the beloved game show. We are surveying NYU to get the most frequent answers to questions that matter such as “What people actually do in Bobst Library” and other pressing questions.

Any student organization at NYU can set up a team of 5 to play. If organizations do not have enough volunteers, we are allowing up to two different organizations to combine members to form a team of 5. We will have quick elimination until we get to the semi-finals when we will be playing “full length” games. The winning team will get to choose the philanthropy of their choice to receive a $100 contribution.
To make things even more exciting, free Insomnia Cookies and Domino’s Pizza will be served at the “taping”, courtesy of the Inter-Greek Council. The actual event is sure to be packed as pizza, cookies, competition, charity, the most witty DLP host you’ll ever meet, and a revealing of the most common answers to our survey are expected to bring in various NYU club members who can come and cheer on their representatives.
So come on out to Greek Family Feud for pure family fun!  6pm November 30th in Kimmel 802
If you want to co-sponsor this soon-to-be landmark NYU event, would like to submit a team, or have questions/comments, please e-mail Delta.Lambda.Phi.Club@nyu.edu. Otherwise fill out the survey NOW & we will see you on November 30th! Let us know if you have NYU Questions you are dying to know the answer to at our Facebook Event!

DLP’s 2nd Annual HOTT Drag Race: Culture Couture

DLP's 2nd Annual HOTT Drag RaceWe are hosting our second annual drag event on Saturday, March 5th in the Eisner & Lubin Auditorium at 60 Washington Square South.

The event, entitled “DLP’s HOTT Drag Race: Culture Couture,” is a runway-style “walk-off” competition and will be judged by a panel of four professional drag queens: Prada Major, Saya Naomi, Jiggly Brooks, and Epiphany Get Paid. Dominique Aviance will be the evening’s MC. In keeping with the night’s international theme, NYU fraternities and sororities will each enter one representative to compete in drag, representing one country. Desserts from around the world will also be served all evening and big prizes will be awarded throughout the show from the raffle!

All proceeds from tickets and raffles will be donated to Heath Outreach to Teens (HOTT) – a program run by Callen-Lorde Community Health Center, which provides everything from primary care to HIV/AIDS treatment for homeless, poor, and at-risk LGBTQ youth aged 13-24. Raffle items will be donated by businesses within the area. There are 16 to 20 thousand homeless youth in New York City. Sixty percent of that number either openly identify as LGBTQ or are questioning.

College Fraternity Date Auction

DLPBetaXi Date AuctionBeing such do-gooders gets costly.

The boys of Delta Lambda Phi at NYU engage a tremendous amount of service throughout the city. We volunteer regularly with the Trevor Project, the Trinity Place Shelter, New Alternatives, HOPE, Ali Forney and the Callen Lorde Center just to name a few.

This is your chance to help us out and get to know us a little more… personally. ;)

As part of a fundraising effort for the fraternity, our eligible bachelors are auctioning themselves off for dates!

Come down to Boots & Saddle on Monday, the 21st to enjoy drink specials, drag-queen Victoria Chase and your chance to win a date with an NYU frat boy! Is there a better way to celebrate President’s day?

*18 to bid, 21 to party.
*Special Thanks to Boots and Saddle for generously providing a venue for our event.

Lovingly,
The boys of Delta Lambda Phi

Yoga!

Tonight the boys of Delta Lambda Phi are heading out to Palladium for a night of fun yoga instruction by our much loved alumnus Nathan! Come to stretch out, meditate, or discover personal enlightenment while getting to know the Brothers of Delta Lambda Phi.

If you’ve got a yoga mat grab it (if not a towel will do!) and meet us on the 3rd floor of Palladium in Conference Room B at 7pm. Can’t wait to see everyone there!

(Modern) Family Game Night

Well boys the turn out for yesterday’s Meet the (Modern) Family event was great! I think it’s safe to say that all who attended had fun snacking on chips and gummy bears while getting to know the Brothers of NYU’s Beta Xi chapter!

I hope we’ll see some new and familiar faces at tonight’s event! Family Game Night, which was such an awesome hit last semester, is back for a repeat performance! I just know everyone will have fun playing games, snacking on sweets and getting to know the Brothers.

See you in Kimmel 907 at 7pm!

Meet the Family

ModernFraternityTeaserThe Men of Delta Lambda Phi have been eagerly anticipating the time when recruitment week starts and we get to see all the men interested in joining our wonderful family! We look forward to seeing both new and familiar faces tomorrow (February 6th) at 5pm at our “Meet the Family” event of recruitment week.

DLP will provide some light munchies, good company, and short little presentation about the brotherhood. So come and meet this family, our modern fraternity.

Spring 2011 Recruitment Week: Modern Fraternity

DLP-BetaXi Recruitment Flyer Spring 2011The Beta Xi Chapter of Delta Lambda Phi at NYU is thrilled to announce its recruitment lineup for Spring 2011. Given that we think of our chapter a fun and diverse (if occasionally quirky) family of gay, bisexual, and progressive men, the theme of this semester’s recruitment week is a take-off on the popular ABC comedy series Modern Family. With this recruitment period, the Beta Xi chapter is anticipating continued expansion in member size. We hope that all young gay, bisexual, and progressive men of NYU will feel free to stop by one of the following events and get to know the family! “You-Are-Loved” Vigil Is A Huge Success!

Last evening, over 2,000 people turned out for the “You-Are-Loved” Glowlight Vigil in honor of the recent young men who have passed as a result of LGBTQ-related bullying. Even in the pouring rain, Delta Lambda Phi and NYU LGBT organizations carried on and welcomed invited speakers Governor Paterson, NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn, and performer Cheyenne Jackson! We appreciate all the help they provided for this event.

Photos and updates from the event to come!
Thank you to everyone for bringing this event to life and may we not stop here, but rather continue fighting to make our schools safer for all students.
